Dovestone, Yeoman Hey Reservoir and Greenfield Reservoir Circular on AllTrails
Distance: 7.9km
ETA: 2.5 hours
Elevation: 368m
We recently tackled this challenging but rewarding trail, and it's one we'd highly recommend – with a few crucial tips!
This circular walk offers a fantastic mix of reservoir views, challenging climbs, and dramatic landscapes. You'll traverse alongside three stunning reservoirs, each offering its own unique charm. But the real highlight of this route, for us, was the climb up the waterfall – yes, you read that right!
Now, here's the insider tip: do this walk clockwise. . Going clockwise means you'll be climbing up the waterfall section, which, while tricky, is significantly easier than trying to navigate it down. The path here is quite challenging, with some scrambling required, and it would be a real test of nerve (and possibly coordination) to descend it. I managed it with Alfie, he pulls quite a lot on the lead so I was quite nervous doing this but we got through it!
This is a boggy and at times, fairly challenging route, so be prepared for some tough going. The terrain can be uneven, and there are sections where you'll be navigating through boggy ground. Good hiking boots are an absolute must!
The top of the route is very exposed, offering incredible panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. And then there's the Trinnacle, a truly impressive rock formation. It's a sight to behold, perched precariously on the edge of the cliff. Be warned, though: climbing the Trinnacle is extremely dangerous, with a monumental drop. People have tragically lost their lives attempting it. I wasn't brave enough to even consider it, but dog dad, ever the adventurer, did! (Much to my anxiety). He made it safely, of course, but it's a reminder of the power and danger of nature.

Final Thoughts
The Dovestone, Yeoman Hey, and Greenfield Reservoir Circular is a fantastic hike for experienced walkers looking for a challenge and stunning scenery. Just remember to go clockwise, be prepared for boggy conditions, and admire the Trinnacle from a safe distance! And get there early if you want to park!
