The Yorkshire Dales are renowned for their stunning landscapes, and the Semer Water and Raydale circular walk perfectly encapsulates this beauty. This route offers a delightful mix of lakeside strolls, gentle climbs, and breathtaking views, making it a fantastic day out for all. We recently explored this trail, and it quickly became a firm favorite – with a few helpful tips!

This walk is a lovely blend of different terrains. You'll enjoy peaceful paths alongside Semer Water, offering picturesque views across the lake. The route then takes you through the rolling hills and valleys of the Dales, providing panoramic vistas of the surrounding countryside.

While the majority of the walk is relatively easy, there is one or two steep sections that will definitely get your heart pumping! It's a bit of a climb, but the effort is more than worth it once you reach the top and are rewarded with the stunning views.

For those bringing their four-legged friends, there's a fantastic bonus: a lovely watering spot perfect for a dog paddle! Our canine companions absolutely loved cooling off in the clear water, making the walk even more enjoyable.

A few important things to note about this walk:

  • Parking: The large car park for this walk is located at a local farm, and they mainly accept cash payments. It’s only £1.50, but make sure you bring some pound coins with you just incase! Don't get caught out without any change, as it's a long way to go back!
  • Sheep Spotting: You'll likely encounter sheep along the route, so keep dogs on leads where necessary and be mindful of livestock.
  • One Steep Section: Be prepared for a bit of a climb, but the views from the top are incredible.
  • Dog-Friendly Paddle Spot: A perfect place for your furry friend to cool off.

The Semer Water and Raydale circular walk is a fantastic way to experience the beauty of the Yorkshire Dales. It offers a mix of easy walking and challenging climbs, with stunning views and a lovely spot for dogs to paddle. Just remember to bring cash for the car park, and you're all set for a wonderful day out!
