The Lake District isn’t all about hiking your boots off, sometimes you just want a lovely, accessible walk with stunning views. The Derwentwater Circular ticks all the boxes, offering a mostly flat and easy path around the lake, with a few delightful surprises along the way. We explored this route a few years ago, and it's perfect for a relaxing day out, suitable for most fitness levels.

This circular walk offers a wonderful variety of experiences. The majority of the path is flat and well-maintained, making it ideal for a leisurely stroll. You'll meander through woodlands, alongside the lake, and across open fields, enjoying the ever-changing scenery. Derwentwater itself is a beauty, its tranquil waters reflecting the surrounding fells.

Now, for a little heads-up: there's one very short section where the path has essentially vanished, requiring a tiny bit of scrambling. It's nothing too challenging, but worth being aware of, especially if you're not expecting it. It adds a little touch of adventure to the walk!

One of the best things about the Derwentwater Circular is that you don't have to walk the whole way back if you don't fancy it. There's the option to hop on a boat across the lake, offering a different perspective and saving your legs a bit of work. It's a fun and unique way to experience Derwentwater.

Midway through the walk, you'll stumble upon a true gem: a gorgeous cafe. On a sunny day, there's nothing better than stopping here for a refreshing cider break, soaking in the beautiful surroundings. It's the perfect excuse to take a breather and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere.

And for those who are fans of Beatrix Potter, there's an extra treat in store! The route passes by a Beatrix Potter garden, offering a delightful glimpse into the world of Peter Rabbit and friends. It's a charming addition to an already wonderful walk.

Before or after your walk, be sure to explore the charming village of Pooley Bridge. It's a lovely spot with plenty of cafes, pubs, and shops, making it the perfect place to grab a bite to eat or browse for souvenirs.
