Distance: 9km
ETA: 3 hours

Looking for a hike that blends the tranquility of forests with the rugged beauty of the fells? The Lord's Seat and Whitbarrow Circular in the Lake District offers just that, a delightful mix of woodland paths and open fell tops, with stunning views to boot. We explored this route back in 2022, and it's definitely one we'd recommend – with a few helpful tips!
This circular walk offers a lovely variety of scenery. You'll start by winding your way through enchanting forests, the dappled sunlight filtering through the trees. The air is fresh and fragrant, and the sounds of nature surround you. It's a truly peaceful experience. Then, as you ascend, the trees begin to thin, and you emerge onto the open fells, where breathtaking panoramic views await.
The initial climb is definitely steep, a good workout for the legs! Our advice? Go anti-clockwise. It’s reeeaaaalllyyy steep coming down, and personally, I think it would have written me off going up that way!
Parking for this route can be a bit tricky. We ended up parking on the side of the road, as the designated parking areas were full. However, we noticed there were some other potential parking spots further along the route, so it might be worth exploring those options if you're struggling to find a place to park near the start.
A few things to keep in mind for this hike:
Despite the parking challenges, the Lord's Seat and Whitbarrow Circular is a fantastic hike. The varied terrain, stunning views, and the joy of exploring both forest and fell make it a truly rewarding experience. Just remember to go anti-clockwise, be mindful of the cows, and you're sure to have a wonderful day out in the Lake District!
